Day 1: Broome to Dampier Peninsular (D)
The first eight days of your adventure are along the Kimberley coast in Pearl Sea Coastal Cruises on the small luxury cruise ship 'Kimberley Quest 11'.
You have the day free until you adventure begins with a complimentary transfer from your hotel to board the Kimberley Quest II at approximately 5.00pm. Enjoy sunset drinks and get acquainted with your crew, before enjoying a relaxing dinner. This evening we cruise through the night to reach the Buccaneer Archipelago by morning to begin your Ultimate Kimberley Wilderness Adventure.
Dinner & Overnight: Kimberley Quest II
Day 2: Buccaneer Archipelago Region (B, L, D)
Today we cruise to Crocodile Creek freshwater swimming hole, add your own memorabilia to a shanty shack erected here by passing travellers (easy walk & swim). Afterwards we head to Silver Gull, a squatters spot for a barbecue lunch with some local characters. Later cruising past King Sound enjoy stunning surrounds of the Buccaneer Archipelago islands and take in another sunset aboard as we pass Cape Leveque.
Day 3: Talbot Bay Region (B, L, D)
Today witness the immense Kimberley tidal movements. At the massive lagoon created by Montgomery Reef, the boat lowers almost 4 metres with the natural drop of sea level as miles of surrounding reef become exposed with natural cascades forming as trapped surface water rushes off the reef top. Later we cruise to Horizontal Falls where water trapped in Talbot Bay rushes through a small rock opening creating two visible water levels in the process.
Day 4: Sale River Region (B, L, D)
Today we deviate inland to explore the Sale River with an excursion up the river in the Kimberley Quest's tenders to visit an ancient Rainforest for an easy walk and swim.
Day 5: Prince Regent River (B, L, D)
Today is spent exploring the Prince Regent River area. Find a spot to relax on the sun deck with a book from the Kimberley Quest's extensive library or join an excursion (medium fitness level) to Camp Creek for a refreshing river swim. Each evening take in the peace and quiet of your remote northwest Australia location. Relax with a drink as you watch another spectacular sunset.
Day 6: St Georges Basin Region (B, L, D)
Today we venture through the large inland waterway of St Georges Basin. Continuing up the mighty Prince Regent River to the breath taking Kings Cascades Falls for an adventurous walk and swim (medium fitness). Now 40 miles inland, tides permitting we settle into the vicinity for a couple of days with plenty of opportunities for Barramundi Fishing (gear provided on a “replace if lost basis”).
Day 7: Hunter River Regent (B, L, D)
Following breakfast we cruise to Port Nelson and launch the Kimberley Quest's excursion tenders heading to shore for an easy paced walk to an ancient Boab Tree. Later we travel to peaceful St Georges Basin bounded by an ancient red rock escarpment.
Day 8: Mitchell Plateau changeover to 4-Wheel Drive (B, L, D)
Enjoy your final morning afloat exploring the Hunter River escarpment until your helicopter arrives, landing aboard the Kimberley Quest's heli-pad. Wave goodbye to the Crew of the Kimberley Quest II as you take off for a thrilling 30 minute scenic helicopter flight over the magnificent Mitchell Falls and Hunter River to land at the historic World War 2 Mitchell Plateau Airstrip and then take a scenic air transfer to Drysdale River Station to meet your new 4WD driver-guide and commence an 8 day adventure through the Kimberley with Australian Pinnacle Tours.
Tonight swap stories over a well-earned beer with other fellow travellers at Annie’s bar, the onsite bush bar. Dinner & Overnight – Drysdale River Station (share bathroom facilities)
Day 9: Drysdale River Station to El Questro Wilderness Park (B, L, D)
This morning we travel south along the Kalumburu Road and then along the famous Kimberley stock route the 'Gibb River Road' via the Pentecost Ranges & river crossing. We arrive early afternoon at El Questro Wilderness Park and this afternoon you have the option to take a hike to Emma Gorge (strenuous), before checking into El Questro Township.

:We highly recommend you don't miss the chance to indulge in a deluxe accommodation upgrade to the infamous El Questro Homestead for 2 nights. Perched on the edge of a gorge cliff the homestead is the finest 5 star accommodation in the Kimberley. Meals, alcohol and some excursions are included in rate. Only 6 rooms are available. Cost for 2 nights inclusive: $1,495pp twin share or $1,945pp for a single person. (Note: Special food/dietary requirements for your stay at the Homestead must be advised at least 4 weeks prior to tour departure).
Day 10: El Questro Wilderness Park (B, L, D)
Today we have a day to explore El Questro Wilderness Park, 1 million acres of it. This morning we visit Zebedee Hot Springs (easy walk), bring bathers as you can bath in the hot pools. We then explore some of the many gorges found on EL Questro (gorges visited will depend on fitness levels). You may also choose to enjoy optional activities including the afternoon Chamberlain Gorge cruise where you will see some Aboriginal rock art, 4WD or helicopter Barramundi Fishing guided tours, scenic helicopter flights or horse riding. Tonight enjoy some outback hospitality around the El Questro Township.
Day 11: El Questro to Kununurra (B, L, D)
This morning we travel east along the Gibb River Road and take a drive around Kununurra’s Ord River Irrigation Scheme plantations and visit Ivanhoe Crossing. We then travel out to the immense Lake Argyle and visit Argyle Homestead to enjoy tales of early Kimberley settlers, before we join a fascinating cruise back to Kununurra down the Ord River. Day 12: Kununurra to Halls Creek (B, L, D)
Today we travel south to Turkey Creek and join a scenic helicopter flight (included) into the rugged and World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park, home of the amazing beehive like Bungle Bungles. Experience the thrill and freedom of taking off in a helicopter and passing over the immense Bungles land mass with views into incredible ravines and gorges below. Later we travel on to Halls Creek for our overnight stay. Dinner & Overnight – Kimberley Hotel (ensuite rooms)
Day 13: Halls Creek to Fitzroy Crossing (B, L, D)
This morning we explore Halls Creek and surrounds, including China Wall an unusual geological formation. We then head to Fitzroy Crossing and then onto Geikie Gorge for an afternoon 3 hour Darngku Heritage Cruise tour hosted by local Bunuba Cultural guides. We learn of fascinating Aboriginal bush tucker and plant uses, animal tracking, Dreamtime stories and cultural matters and view geological sea fossils and spot native animals including crocodiles. We briefly explore Fitzroy Crossing, before we enjoy a BBQ dinner. BBQ Dinner & Overnight – Fitzroy River Lodge (Furnished Safari Cabins with ensuite)
Day 14: Fitzroy Crossing to Mt Hart Wilderness Lodge (B, L, D)
We set off early to explore Tunnel Creek, an amazing 750m long flooded tube tunnel. We take an exciting walk wading through knee to thigh high water and learn the story of how the tunnel was used as a hideout for the renowned Aboriginal 'Pigeon'.
We then head to the pre-historic Windjana Gorge regarded as one of the classic features of world geology and a great freshwater crocodile spotting site, before rejoining the Gibb River Road and heading north through the Napier and King Leopold Ranges to our overnight stay. Arriving early afternoon settle in to the very beautiful and civilised Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge. Later enjoy champagne and cheese as you watch the sun set over the King Leopold Ranges. Day 15: Mt Hart to Broome (B, L)
After breakfast you have the option to relax in the beautiful surroundings of this once cattle station homestead or take hike (easy) and swim in nearby Barker Pool. Back on the road we travel through the ancient geology of the King Leopold Ranges and rejoin the Gibb River Road. Enroute to Broome we visit the pioneer town of Derby, also known for its huge tides and stop at the Prison Boab Tree with arrival approximately 7.00 pm.
Please Note: Components of the sea leg of this itinerary are all subject to the tides and weather and changes to the itinerary may be made at the discretion of the Captain of the Kimberley Quest II. Pre and post tour accommodation and local sightseeing in Broome can be arranged for you, simply ask at time of booking.
