Day 1: Wed. Indian Pacific Rail. Board the Indian Pacific at Sydney's Central Station. Passengers travel independently until Saturday, with meals and Gold Kangaroo-Class sleeping berths included. (D) Day 2: Thur. Adelaide. 18 Day Passengers join in Adelaide. Board the Indian Pacific for departure. (BLD)
Cross the Nullarbor Plain along the famous 478 kilometre 'Long Straight', the longest straight stretch of railway in the world. (BLD) Day 4: Sat. Arrive Perth. At the
end of your rail journey, you are transferred from the Perth
Rail Terminal to your hotel. Day 5: Sun. Perth, Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuary, Welcome Dinner. Experience the Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) managed Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuary. Enjoy a dusk nature walk and Welcome Dinner amid the jarrah woodlands and granitic heaths of this stunning region. Keep an eye out for the endangered species that populate this beautiful haven, including the Numbat and the Quenda. (BD) Day 6: Mon. Historic York, Wave Rock. Cross the
jarrah forests of the Darling Ranges to historic York, classified
by the National Trust, for a guided tour. Travel to the
quaint Outback town of Hyden and explore the natural wonder
of Wave Rock, over 100 metres in length and rising 15 metres
above the surrounding bushland. Day 7: Tue. Coolgardie, Freedom of Choice Touring, Kalgoorlie. Journey
through the wheatbelt to Coolgardie. Take advantage of our
Freedom of Choice Touring at no extra cost. Visit the Gold
Museum or the Pharmacy Museum. On to Kalgoorlie, known as
the 'City of Gold', producing more than half of the gold
mined in Australia. Travel Kalgoorlie's Golden Mile, reputed
to be the richest square mile in the world, and admire the
town's architecture. Day 8: Wed. Kalgoorlie, Freedom of Choice Touring, Kambalda, Lake Lefroy, Esperance. In Kalgoorlie,
enjoy our Freedom of Choice Touring activities; they won't
add a cent to the price of your tour. Visit the Mining Hall
of Fame, take an underground tour at Hannans North Goldmine
or try your luck panning for gold. We view Lake Lefroy,
and travel south to Esperance. Day 9: Thur. Pink Lake, Historic Albany. Take in
the sights of Esperance, including Twilight Bay and the
unique Pink Lake. Drive on through the rugged beauty of
the Stirling Range and from Bluff Knoll see the jagged peaks
towering over bushland, carpeted with wildflowers in spring.
Arrive in Albany this afternoon, Western Australia's oldest
town. Day 10: Fri. Albany, Freedom of Choice Touring. This morning enjoy our Freedom of Choice Touring in Albany. Choose to visit the Mt Romance Bodycare Factory or board a catamaran and cruise Albany's harbour. From August to November, this tour is also a whale-watching cruise. Underwater microphones help us listen for the song of humpback whales. This afternoon, tour Whale World at Cheyne's Beach. (B)
Experience
the beauty of the 'Valley of the Giants' with Freedom of
Choice. Choose the Tree Top Walk to explore the magnificent
tingle forest at canopy level, or admire the tingles at
ground level, with a boardwalk stroll through the Ancient
Empire, with tree bases spanning up to 16 metres. Climb
the highest fire lookout in the world at the Gloucester
Tree, towering 60 metres above the forest floor. Later we
all join a local guide on the Pemberton Tramway. We then
drive through tall timber forests to Margaret River.
Two
Night Stay: Margaret River, All Seasons Hotel. Day 12: Sun. Freedom of Choice Touring. Enjoy our Freedom of Choice Touring at no extra cost. You can choose to savour the sights of Margaret River, exploring the exquisite limestone formations of Jewel Cave and driving the magnificent coastline of Cape Leeuwin. The region's famous wineries are next, including the award-winning Leeuwin and Voyager Estates. Alternatively, join a canoeing adventure on the Margaret River followed by a bush lunch. Explore Margaret River at leisure this evening. (B) Day 13: Mon. Fremantle, Freedom of Choice Touring, Perth Tour, Dine Around Dinner. We follow
the stunning coastline to the historic port of Fremantle
for our Freedom of Choice Touring. Choose to visit the Western
Australian Maritime Museum or the Fremantle Motor Museum.
We head to Perth and enjoy a tour of the city. Explore Kings
Park, with city views and 400 hectares of delightful gardens.
Tonight enjoy our Dine Around Dinner experience. Stay: Fremantle, The Esplanade Hotel, right in the heart of historic Fremantle. Day 14: Tue. Freedom of Choice Touring. Perth's Swan River and the Indian Ocean make for great cruising. Choose from three cruises today. Join the Aboriginal Heritage Tour on the Swan River with a local Nyoongar guide, or cruise to Fremantle and spend the day wandering the historic port town. Alternatively, a visit to beautiful Rottnest Island gives you the day to explore - perhaps hire a bicycle and tour the island, discovering hidden bays. Stay: Perth, Novotel Langley Hotel, with stunning views over Kings Park. (B) Day 15: Wed. New Norcia, Coomberdale Wildflower Farm, Kalbarri. We head
to New Norcia, a charming town showing the influence of
Spanish Benedictine monks. See the monastery and church,
and admire the museum's European treasures. Visit the Coomberdale
Wildflower Farm, where thousands of flowers are prepared
for export. In spring, the area is ablaze with colour. Continue
north to Kalbarri. Day 16: Thur. Shark Bay, Dugong Cruise. Continue
to World Heritage Shark Bay for a truly special wildlife
cruise. With permission to enter a restricted-access zone,
we search for the dugong, one of the world's rarest and
most mysterious animals, and the creature that is believed
to have inspired the myth of the mermaid.
Classic
wildlife encounters continue as we experience the magic
of Monkey Mia's bottlenose dolphins (subject to appearance).
Visit the nearby town of Denham and walk along Shell Beach.
We stop at Hamelin Pool to view the stromatolites, the world's
oldest known living organisms. Journey into the port town
of Geraldton and tonight enjoy APT's exclusive Dine Around
Dinner. Choose from selected restaurants; it's all included
in the tour price. Day 18: Sat. Pinnacles, Perth, Farewell Dinner. Our drive
today takes us into Nambung National Park, where thousands
of limestone pillars create an eerie display. Wander through
the ancient Pinnacles before we continue south to Perth.
