Day 1 - Just
2 hours drive south from Perth is the port of Bunbury.
Bunbury’s love affair with street art, harbour themes
and indulgence of coffee and gourmet food has made
the city one of Western Australia’s most thriving
cosmopolitan cities.
In Bunbury be sure to
experience the Koombana Bay dolphins. A group of
up to 100 wild bottlenose dolphins live in the city’s
bay and regularly visit the dolphin beach where
you can swim and interact with the dolphins or take
a dolphin watch cruise.
Cruise
tours are available at 11.00 am and 2.00pm.
Swim Tours are available at 8.00am and
11.00am.
Head south out
of Bunbury, to Busselton. On the beachfront, 7 km
west of Busselton, towards Dunsborough, you will
find Abbey Beach Resort.
Day 2 - Explore
Busselton itself with all the shops and cafe’s you
could want. Take a walk on the Southern Hemisphere’s
longest wooden jetty or along the bay. Experience
Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and Discovery Centre,
visit Dunsborough and stop at the bakery.
Visit
Country Life Farm. Feed the friendly animals anytime
of the day - whether it be rabbits, guinea pigs,
goats, sheep, llama, alpaccas, donkeys, ponies,
clydesdales or cows.
Take a walk through
Nilgi Cave in Yallingup and see the wonderful stalagmites
and stalagmites.
Visit the fabulous Yallingup
Shearing Shed or for the more adventurous, book
a dive or snorkel on the wreck of the HMAS Swan.
A
visit to the region would not be complete without
exploring and tasting the wines from premium producers
and at your favourite, indulge in a vineyard lunch
overlooking continuous rows of vines.
Meander
through countless country lanes discovering galleries,
taste boutique beers, local cheeses, and chocolates.
yoghurts and more.
Head back to the resort,
and to the beach to watch the sun set over the Indian
ocean.
Day 3 - Take
a relaxed tour with a local tour company. Groups
are usually small and move at a relaxed pace. Canoe,
experience breathtaking caves, see spectacular forest,
swim and snorkel the pristine waters of the bay,
view wildflowers (seasonal).
Alternatively explore
the fabulous attractions yourself. Drive the length
of Caves Rd and discover vineyards, galleries, forests
caves and more. Visit the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse
and see where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern
Ocean. There is always the chance to spot whales
from the shore near the lighthouse from June –November.
For a taste of
the coast, deviate from the road and discover tranquil
private swimming bays, long sandy beaches or powerful
world class surf.
Visit the Margaret
River township, stroll the main street and explore
the many boutique shops, enjoy a coffee in one of
the many cafes, & visit the Eagle heritage Centre.
Drive further south
to Augusta and explore the towns famous Caseworks
including, Mammoth, Jewel, Lake and Moondyne Caves.
Whale watching
with Naturaliste Charters is a great way to see
the big mammals up close. Dunsborough (September
– November) Augusta (June – end August)
Day 4 - Today,
set off early for the world’s longest and highest
treetop walk, stopping for wine tasting, homemade
fare, and spectacular coastal sightseeing along
the way. Spend an hour or two walking along the
boardwalk through the floor of the Ancient Empire
of Tingle Trees. For a different perspective walk
up amongst the canopy of the forest on the tree-top
walk. Visit spectacular Fernbrook falls or Conspicuous
Cliffs.
Day 5 - Spend
the day in Nannup. Nannup is a pretty, historical
town nestled in the heart of the Blackwood River
Valley surrounded by forest, and located on the
banks of the Blackwood River.
Walking down the
main street of Nannup is like a walk back in time.
This historic mill town is nestled amongst the hills
alongside the Blackwood River. The river is the
largest in the Southwest, flowing through the jarrah
forest and emptying at Augusta. Beautiful scenic
drives through the lush countryside lead from Nannup,
especially impressive during the spring when the
wildflowers in the surrounding jarrah forest are
plentiful.
Local Attractions
include the river walk trail along the Blackwood
River, the Kondil Park wildflower walk which meanders
through jarrah forest.
Visit the Nannup
Mill. This entirely jarrah mill is the only one
in the State.
Spend time lost
in the Tulip Farm from July to September.
Browse through
the numerous craft shops located on the main street.
Day 6 - Head
off for the towering old growth Karri Forests of
Pemberton. Pack a gourmet breakfast and enjoy it
in a tranquil forest setting on the heartbreak trail.
Pit strength against mind and climb the rungs of
the enormous Gloucester or Bicentennial tree. Spend
time exploring the forest, find wildflowers (best
time Sept – Nov, though flowers all year round).
Try your luck fishing
for trout at the trout farm.
