"In the heart of the Shark Bay World Heritage Region of Western Australia."
The Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort is located on a unique section of World Heritage coastline - only 27 km from the town of
Denham with an excellent sealed road right to its door. North facing, therefore sheltered from the prevailing breeze.
This magnificent resort offers a wide variety of accommodation, facilities and activities to satisfy the needs of all travellers.
The resort is self contained, generating its own electricity and desalinating large quantities of fresh water.
Wonderful things started happening in the early 60's when a pod of Bottle Nosed Dolphins began what has come to be a daily
ritual of swimming into the clear shallows to delight visitors with their intelligence and grace.
No one can remember how Monkey Mia came by its strange sounding name. It has been suggested that it's a combination of
the name of colonial survey ship The Monkey, which visited in 1830, and an Aboriginal word Mia, meaning place or home.
Whatever its origins, no one will ever forget their first view of the bay and the spectacular contrast of sky, crystal clear water,
white sand beaches and dark red hinterland. A truly special place on earth.
The management and staff work hard to maintain a relaxed atmosphere, where those with a love of nature will delight at the
huge variety of mammal and bird life, native flora and fauna, such as the Dugong.
Over 10,000 of these sea dwelling mammals live in the protection of the Shark Bay Marine Nature Reserve. They are often
seen near the resort.
Romantics will find hundreds of miles of deserted beaches to explore.
For those who want to laze around, there is the beach, fishing, pool, spa, sailing and a wide variety of resort based tours,
cruises and excursions.
Tennis court, racquets, balls and volleyball set provided free for guests.
