Day 1

NP/CP

We leave Darwin today visiting the Mamukala bird observatory and Park Headquarters in Kakadu National Park, one of Australia's most significant wilderness areas. We view the Aboriginal art and the breathtaking panorama of the East Alligator River floodplain from Ubirr. Overnight at a camping park at Mardugal or Jabiru

Day 2

NP

This morning we can take an optional sunrise boat trip along the Yellow Waters billabong where up to one third of Australia's birdlife can be seen and possibly some estuarine crocodiles. Later today we tackle 4WD track to experience the spectacular Jim Jim and Twin Falls. We drive to Gunlom Falls and camp for the night.

Note: access to the falls is dependent on track conditions.

Day 3

BC

A refreshing morning swim at the natural pool or for the more energetic, climb to the top of the falls for a great view. Heading now for Katherine Gorge National Park where you can view the towering sandstone cliffs on the gorge taking an optional boat cruise or canoe trip, or perhaps take one of the many walking tracks.

Day 4

CP

We leave early this morning and head west, driving via Victoria River and Timber Creek. We cross the border into Western Australia, adjust our watches and drive through the Ivanhoe Crossing to arrive at Kununurra where we can enjoy a mango smoothie at the Dairy Farm.

Day 5

 CP

A full day in Kununurra to relax around the pool or explore the area including optional activities: canoeing, scenic flights, abseiling, fishing for Barramundi.

Day 6

NP

Our first stop after Kununurra is at a secluded swimming hole, before visiting the renowned Warmun Art Centre to view artwork from leading Aboriginal artists in residence. We continue our journey to Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park driving for several hours via 4WD-only access tracks. After setting up camp we experience a magnificent Bungle Bungle sunset.

Day 7

NP

There is a lot more to the Bungles than the beehive-shaped domes, and today we will discover the delights of this wilderness paradise at Frog Hole, Mini-Palms Gorge and Echidna Chasm. We walk through the tiger-striped sandstone domes at picanniny Creek to the spacious cavern of Cathedral Gorge, with an optional helicopter flight also available.

Day 8

CP

After a bumpy start to the day along the 4WD tracks, we hit the bitumen again and stop at the old goldmining town of Hall's Creek en route to Fitzroy Crossing, camping on the banks of the Fitzroy River. Optional boat trip this afternoon past the colourful cliffs of Geikie Gorge, part of the Devonian Reef system, with the chance to view some of the local wildlife.
