Day 1 – Thu, Brisbane – Join the Sunlander.
This morning depart Brisbane aboard Queensland Rail's "The Sunlander". Accommodation in Queenslander Class, inclusive of sleeping berth, onboard meals and relaxing lounge car. Travel through pineapple and sugar cane country as we head north to Nambour, Bundaberg and Rockhampton. Overnight on the train. (l) (d)
NB Queenslander Class compartments on the train include sleeping berths and washbasin, with showers and toilets at the end of each carriage.

Day 2 – Fri., Townsville and Cairns
Wake to the glorious tropical scenery of North Queensland as the train approaches Townsville, largest city of the region. Mid afternoon arrival in Cairns. You will be met and shown to your hotel. Accommodation: Holiday Inn (3 nights, room only). (b) (l)

Day 3 – Sat., Great Barrier Reef Cruise & Port Douglas
Drive along the Coral Sea coast to trendy Port Douglas. From here we take a cruise to the spectacular Outer Reef where the clear waters provide the best possible underwater visibility of coral and marine life. Your day includes a presentation by a Marine Biologist, underwater observatory, semi-submersible vessel for coral viewing, snorkelling equipment and smorgasbord lunch. (l)

Day 4 – Sun., Cairns
A free day to enjoy Cairns. Optional tours may be purchased locally for the Kuranda Railway and the Atherton Tablelands.

Day 5 – Mon., Fly Cairns to Darwin
Free time before transferring to the airport for your flight across Northern Australia to Darwin (Airfare not included).
Accommodation: Holiday Inn Esplanade (2 nights, room only).

Day 6 – Tue., Darwin - Litchfield National Park
A great day out in the bush for the nature lover. View Florence Falls, Tolmer Falls and then the lovely setting at Wangi, where there is time for swimming in the natural waterhole. (l)

Day 7 – Wed., Join The Ghan, Katherine Gorge Option
Transfer to the station to join The Ghan. Travel south to Katherine where the train stops for 4 hours allowing time to enjoy a spectacular cruise or helicopter ride at Katherine Gorge, Nitmiluk National Park (these tours are optional and extra cost, book and pay on the train). (l) (d)

Day 8 – Thu., Alice Springs – Ayers Rock, Sunset
Arrive in Alice Springs this morning. Leave the train and continue to Ayers Rock Resort by road. Complete the day watching sunset at Uluru (Ayers Rock). Accommodation: Sails in the Desert Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort. (b)

Day 9 – Fri., Ayers Rock, The Olgas
Sunrise touring in the National Park. Drive out to the impressive domes of Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) for a guided walk. Afternoon return by coach to Alice Springs. Accommodation: Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Day 10 – Sat., Rejoin The Ghan
The train doesn’t leave until early afternoon so there’s plenty of time for last minute souvenir hunting. Once aboard enjoy Gold Kangaroo Service and the timeless outback scenery as we head south overnight to Port Augusta. (d)

Day 11 – Sun., Adelaide. Fly to Sydney. Rail to Melbourne
The Ghan pulls into Adelaide’s Keswick Rail Terminal this morning. Adelaide guests – package concludes. (b) Sydney & Brisbane bound guests fly out – own arrangements to the airport. (b) Melbourne guests connect with the scenic "The Overland" daylight service to the Victorian capital, lunch and light dinner served en route. Arrive Melbourne this evening, package concludes.(b) (l) (d)

Departs Adelaide
Travel clockwise from Adelaide to Darwin, Cairns and Brisbane. Inclusions as per 11 day itinerary plus 2 extra nights in Darwin – room only.

Departs: Brisbane on Thursdays. Adelaide (P36R) on Fridays.
