DAY 1 – Thu., Alice Springs to Coober Pedy on The Ghan
Make your way to Alice Springs Station for early afternoon departure of The Ghan. Once aboard enjoy the excellent service and the red desert sunset as we head south. Dinner on the train. Arrive Manguri siding this evening and transfer to your hotel in nearby Coober Pedy. Accommodation: Desert Cave Hotel (2 nights). (d)

DAY 2 – Fri., Coober Pedy - Opal Capital
Enjoy a comprehensive, guided tour of the town plus The Breakaways. Visit a working opal mine and view an underground home and church. See beautiful displays of finished stones – opportunity to purchase too. (b)

DAY 3 – Sat., Coober Pedy - The Painted Desert
Full day outback discovery to the ‘Painted Desert’. Travel over the Moon Plains, once an ancient inland sea bed. Cross vast cattle stations and coolibah-lined creeks en route to the spectacular colourful hills of the Painted Desert. Meet the locals and enjoy a leisurely lunch in this remote corner of the land. The wild scenery, flora and fauna are stunning. Evening transfer to the station to rejoin The Ghan. Overnight on the train. (b) (l)

DAY 4 – Sun., Adelaide - Melbourne (Sydney)
The Ghan pulls into Adelaide’s Keswick Rail Terminal this morning. Adelaide guests journey concludes. (b) Melbourne bound guests: Change trains to The Overland scenic daylight service. Cross the Murray River, pass The Grampians and vineyards of Great Western on your way to the Victorian capital. Evening arrival. (b) (l) (d) Sydney bound guests will be transferred to Adelaide airport for the flight home. Airfare not included. (b)

Days 5-7 – Mon.–Wed., Adelaide to Sydney alternative
Sydney bound travellers may, as an alternative to flying home, choose to stay over 2 nights in Adelaide (with accommodation included) then join the Tuesday Indian Pacific train service. Arrive Sydney Wednesday morning. Ask for details.

Departs: Alice Springs on Thursdays (Darwin on Wednesdays).
Conditions: Single room supplement obligatory if travelling alone. This package not suitable for children under 7 years. Airfares not included in package price.
