    ACTIVITIES

    Horse Riding:
Accompanied trail rides of varying difficulty and length are offered from the property. These rides are offered courtesy of Trailride Pty Ltd.
Rides from an hour to 4 hours cover the area from Mt Roland and include bush and logging tracks. Good views of the mountains and valleys of the area can be enjoyed.
The rides and horses can be geared to your level of experience and we cater from absolute beginners to the more experienced rider. All saddlery and riding helmets provided.
Trail riders must be 10 years old or older, unless experienced.
Led rides for inexperienced riders provided

    Mac
    Meet the Team:

Mustang Sally Chestnut pony 12.5 hands. She is a real honey and the favourite of all the youngsters. A good ride and all heart, likes to lag behind on the trail so that she can trot to catch up.

Misty Half Arab grey/white mare 14 hands. A beautiful lady who never puts a foot wrong on a ride but is at her prettiest when avoiding being caught. Hates to be left behind.

Kate Appaloosa mare 14.5 hands. Kate is the lead mare (according to her anyway) and while amenable likes an experienced rider.

Mac Half drafty paint gelding 14.5 hands. The glamour boy with eyelashes the girls could die for. A very friendly fellow who can be lazy on the trail, if you let him and has the habit of giving a "shiver" every now and again.

Chester Paint 15 hands. With a history of stock work and polo our most educated horse but likes the company of the others on the trail

    ATV 4 Wheel Motor Bikes
We have a couple of Big Reds for hire to explore the many fire and old logging trails that surround the property. You won't hear the birds on the bikes but there is no better way to explore lots of bush in a short space of time.
A good way of deciding which walks to tackle later.

    Trout Fishing
Our dams are stocked with Rainbow Trout. Tasmanian fishing licence is required - fly or lure and catch and release only. Ready access to many of the highland lakes and the Mersey and Dasher rivers for excellent trout fishing in season.

    Silver Mine
Visit the1870's Silver Mine and marvel at the work accomplished with basic tools. Check on the growth of the stalactites and while avoiding the cave spiders don't miss the glow-worms.

    Spotlighting
"Pat a Possum or two" on our native animal spotlighting excursion and meet the cheeky brush tail possums that pop in for their "tea". Pademelons (type of small wallaby) and ringtail possums can also be seen on most nights while sugar gliders and various owls make less frequent appearances.

The devils and quolls are here but they are more scared of us than we are of them and while we see frequent evidence of their passing they are quick to get out of our way and are seldom seen on our walks. On a clear night the skies, undimmed by city lights, are magnificent.

    Bird Watching (the feathered variety)
Over 80 species have been identified in the area and the sound of birds is a feature of the property.
Jim Hunter a local resident offers 2 -3 hour guided walks right here at the foot of Mt Roland. Usually 25 to 35 species are seen on these walks including up to 6 endemics

    WALKS

Silver Ridge: Walks on the property range from a gentle stroll to feed the Rainbow Trout to climbs right up to the cliffs of Mt Roland. There are easy walks along roads and tracks and you have a choice of exploring the creeks through delightful semi rain forest, or even more demanding hikes up to the rock face.

Mt. Roland Summit Track: A magnificent six hour return walk on a well defined track has views to the coast, including the harbour at Devonport and across to Cradle Mountain and the Walls of Jerusalem. Alternate routes lead to Minnow Falls or across Mt Van Dyke and Mt Claude.

Devil's Gullet outlook: Short walk, spectacular scenery.

Kimberley's Lookout / Badger's Range Walk: (approx. 90 min. return) Provides excellent views of Kentish, Mt Roland and beyond.

Lake Barrington Billet Creek Nature Walk: (approx. 1,5 to 2 hours return): An interesting Rain Forest and Nature Walk in delightful bushland in the Lake Barrington recreation area (Rowing, Water-skiing Canoeing), 15 Min from Silver Ridge. Many endemic species are identified for information.

Stoodley Plantation Forest Walk: (approx. 30-40 min) A feature of this walk is the variety of trees planted in the 1940s.

Historic Walk of Latrobe & Dooleys Hill Nature Walk

Asbestos (Narawntapu) National Park: about a 1 hr drive from Silver Ridge. An interesting coastal Park with good walking tracks for day and shorter walks. Lots of native animals to see, (evenings) particularly on the Point Vision walk in winter. A good place to go when the weather in the mountains is poor.

Alum Cliffs Gorge: 2km easy 1hr family walk.

Gog Range Lookout: approx. 90 min return with good views.

Westmoreland Falls: 4.2km 2 hr medium 'out-of-the-way' walk. The route is amid bushland Eucalypts and damp mossy fern gullies.

Montana Falls: 5km 2hr medium walk where Western Creek cuts through the Needles Ridge and Long Ridge.

Cradle Mountain & Walls Of Jerusalem National Parks: Both these magnificent wilderness areas are readily accessible from Silver Ridge, each about 40 minutes drive. There are numerous walks in these areas, from a few hours to several days.

Dove Lake Walk (approx. 2 hours).

Tasmanian Arboretum: (10km south of Devonport) & Don River Railway (west of Devonport)

Gnomon / River Leven - Mt. Dial: There are a number of pleasant walks in the Dial range

    And many more ............
