Huon Bush Retreats is located
in Tasmania's Huon Valley. 50 km drive south from Hobart.
Situated within an extensive habitat reserve, this nature retreat
has a range of self contained cabins to suit couples, families
or groups.
Old growth forest just metres
from your cabin - 60 metre tall, 350 year old trees.
The
protected native habitat is
home to a wide selection of wildlife. By day, abundant birds and small creatures inhabit the forest and open
areas. By night nocturnal mammals go about their lives throughout the
site. Please drive slowly at night as wallabies frequently jump in front
of moving cars.
RELAX
Relax in one of three
comfortable cabins, put your feet up and enjoy the views. Take
an individual yoga class or maybe a soothing massage. Indulge
in a delicious organic lunch or dinner accompanied by fine local
wine or beer. Delight your senses in an open air bath, and feel
your cares float away on the clean mountain air.
EXPLORE
Explore shady treefern
glades and discover the diversity of life in a mixed forest
ecosystem. Meander along a quiet track or take an extended
bushwalk to the summit of Mount Misery with views across the
Huon Valley. Exploring further afield, there are many attractions
within easy driving distance.

beauty of Mount Misery Habitat Reserve with old forest just
steps away from your cabin. Discover Tasmanian flora and fauna
in its natural environment. Find yourself amidst a stand of
ancient trees, listening to the calls of Mountain Currawongs
or the rustling of a tiny beetle. Appreciate privacy, intimacy,
the smell of the forest after rain.

Huon Bush Retreats is the perfect
place to get in touch with your own true nature. Private contemporary
cabins are positioned to maximise views and are located around
a communal open space. Huon Bush Retreats encourages you to
look around and appreciate nature.
Conferences, weddings and other
events also catered for in a natural environment. Bushwalks
on site. The resort features solar-power and composting toilets.
Some tracks and amenities have wheelchair access.
There
is no television or 240 volt electricity. Most mobile phones
work fine. If you need to charge a mobile phone or computer,
we can do so for you at reception.
A typical day at Huon Bush Retreats:
A lazy breakfast on the
deck, maybe under the watchful eye of a mountain currawong. A 1/2 hour
stroll through the oldgrowth forest to marvel at the lush tree ferns, 60m
high eucalypts, fragrant rainforest trees and the tiny creatures
scurrying on the moss covered forest floor. Lunch at nearby Home Hill
Winery or another nearby attraction. Enjoy wine and cheese at the lookout
as the sun sinks behind the hills. Possums, wallabies, bats and owls can
be found most evenings. Self cater or enjoy a gourmet dinner served
direct to your cabin or the outdoor entertainment area. A glass of fine local wine enjoyed under the stars soaking in the outdoor bath to end the perfect day at Huon Bush Retreats.
On site activities include: A 2 minute wheelchair accessible lookout to
a rainforest gully and hidden waterfall. Take the half hour loop track
and experience 60 metre tall 300 year old trees in our old growth forest.
More challenging options also exist for the fit and experienced outdoors
enthusiast.
Nearby are outdoor based activities and destinations such as: Hartz
Mountains and Southwest National Parks, Tahune Air Walk, Trout Fishing,
Horse Riding, Bruny Island and a wide range of bushwalks. It's one and a
half hours drive south to Cockle Creek the southern most road in
Australia and a further 5 hour return walk to South Cape Bay. The Huon is
home to some fine vineyards, restaurants and cafes, galleries and
craftspeople and attractions such as the apple museum.
