ITINERARY:
Day 1 - Seal Bay Beach walk, Kangaroos, Koalas, Birdlife
Arrive on Kangaroo Island at 9.55 a.m. by air or 9.45 a.m. by ferry service, where you will be met by your guide for an introduction to Kangaroo Island. The island is a haven for a wide variety of birdlife and in season colourful native wildflowers carpet the region. At spectacular Seal Bay your guide will escort you on a memorable walk along the beach, which is home to an Australian sea lion colony. Watch as the sea lions bask on the shoreline or waddle up the beach to rest in the sand dunes. Hear these large creatures of the sea interact with each other and see them at play — it is an experience you will treasure forever.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at a secluded bush setting, followed by a bushwalk. There is a great opportunity to see some of the 250 species of birds that inhabit Kangaroo Island. Many birds, because of their isolated habitat, have developed their own sub-species and are unique to the island. Listen for the many distinctive bird calls that punctuate the island’s tranquility. Take a bushwalk though a conservation area looking for the rare Kangaroo Island glossy black cockatoo. Only 250 of these magnificent birds remain in the wild. On your walk you will see up close the Tammar wallaby in its natural habitat. Wild kangaroos and Tammar wallabies can be spotted in the late afternoon. Then mobs of wild kangaroos and other wildlife emerge from the safety of the bush at dusk and graze out on the open plains in full view.
After a full day of exciting adventures, it’s time to check in to your choice of accommodation.
