As Australia’s longest operating outback safari guide and an early pioneer in the industry, there are many firsts to his credit. They include regular operations in the 1960s to the Great Australian Bight coastline. Nullarbor and all of the western desert regions, as well as the Kimberly (including boat, walking, and helicopter off the coast). Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf country followed soon after and in 1971 he organized and led the first commercial tourist party across the Simpson Desert, opening up this area for the many private parties that now make the crossing.
1976 saw camel safaris become a major part of the business. Contemporary expeditions resulted in many crossings of all the Australian deserts, including a full crossing (Steep Point to Byron Bay) of Australia in 1988. In 1979 the extremely rare night parrot was ‘rediscovered’ on Cooper Creek, and in 1990 an 84 camel expedition made a cross country traverse from the MacDonnell Ranges to the Indian Ocean.
