Exploranges Bushwalking Tours - 21 Day Lawn Hill/Carnarvon Gorge Safari

Departing from Adelaide our route is almost due north up the Birdsville Track and Diamantina Development Road to Mount Isa and the gulf country for a 3 night camp in Lawn Hill National Park.

The route then follows the Matilda Highway, passing through Cloncurry, Longreach to Emerald before a short run south to Carnarvon Gorge. Three full days are spent exploring the many diverse gorges of this tall white sandstone country.

The return to Adelaide is via Roma, St George, along back tracks to Goodooga, Brewarrina and Broken Hill. The tour is programmed for relatively short travelling days to enable time to explore your surroundings after camp set-ups.

DAY 1 Depart Adelaide approx. 7am travelling via Clare, Jamestown, Orroroo, and Hawker to Marree on the Oodnadatta track.

DAY 2 We travel up the Birdsville track to Birdsville and camp the night on the banks of the Diamantina River.

DAY 3 The route continues almost due north up the Diamantina development road through the town of Bedourie to Boulia and beyond.

DAY 4 Mornings run to Mt Isa and a look around the town in the afternoon.

DAY 5 We continue North West along the Barkly Highway then North for a bush camp on the Gregory River.

DAY 6 After a morning visit to the Riversleigh palaeontology site we enter the tropical Oasis of Lawn Hill National Park for a three night camp.

DAY 7-8 Walking the park trails, swimming and canoeing are activities planned for the stay.

DAY 9 The route now travels to the Matilda highway and south to Cloncurry for a visit to the flying doctor museum.

DAY 10 On to Winton for the night and a wander through this historic town.

DAY 11 A short run to Longreach and an afternoon in the Stockman’s Hall of Fame or a bit of retail therapy at the shops. The nights camp is in Longreach.

DAY 12 A three quarter day run to Emerald visiting the botanic gardens and Springsure.

DAY 13 To Carnarvon Gorge arriving at lunchtime for a four night camp.

DAY 14-16 Walks along the main Gorge visiting the many varied and spectacular side Gorges in this sub tropical white sandstone country.

DAY 17 We travel due South through Roma to the town of St George.

DAY 18 From St George the route continues South through Dirinbandi and Hebel, through the Goodooga Gate into NSW to camp the night on the banks of the Barwon River at Brewarrina.

DAY 19 On towards Nyngan to join the Barrier Highway then West to Wilcannia for the nights camp.

DAY 20 A morning run to Broken Hill and an afternoon sightseeing around the town, visiting the Art Galleries and doing the historic walk through the town. Camp at the recently revived ghost town of Silverton.

DAY 21 Continue along the Barrier Highway to arrive in Adelaide at approximately 4.45 pm.
