Walking and boating in Katherine Gorge kick off this journey north towards Kakadu National Park. During our six night stay there we visit Nourlangie Rock, Yellow Waters Lagoon, Ubirr Rock and Waterfall Creek. From there we travel north into Arnhem Land to explore the Gurig National Park on the tip of the Cobourg Peninsula before going back to Darwin. Heading south we travel through
Litchfield National Park & stop at Douglas Hot Springs to walk and swim in
Butterfly Gorge. En route to Alice we detour off the Stuart Highway into the
Davenport Ranges, home of the Devil’s Marbles and our resting place for the last
two nights of the tour. Day 1 Depart Adelaide approx 7.30am travelling via Pt Augusta camping the first night at Coober Pedy in an underground dormitory. Day 2 We continue up the Stuart highway, through Alice Springs and camp at Aileron. Day 3 On to Tennant Creek and Larrimah for the nights camp near Dunmurra. Day 4 A half-day drive to Katherine Gorge for a two-night camp.
Day 6 A visit to Edith falls before heading into Kakadu to camp at Waterfall Creek for two nights. Day 7 Walk up the escarpment and along Waterfall creek. Day 8 We travel into the heart of Kakadu to set up camp on the edge of Jim Jim billabong before heading to Yellow Waters for the two-hour evening boat cruise on the lagoon. Day 9 To Nourlangie Rock for a morning walk and then the Bowali Visitors centre at the park headquarters. We will pick up some supplies in Jabiru before heading to Ubirr Rock for a two-night camp. We take the sunset walk at Ubirr Rock. Day 10 A day to wander the Monsoon walking trail and Bardedjilidji trails. Day 11 Travelling on the Arnhem highway we cross the South alligator river and head for Darwin stopping at Fogg Dam conservation reserve for lunch and some good birding. Day 12 A free day in Darwin to explore the many sights, whilst we restock supplies. Day 13 We visit Berry Springs before heading into Litchfield National Park to camp at Wangi falls with an afternoon walk up the escarpment.
Day 15 Driving from our base camp at Douglas Hot Springs we travel to Butterfly Gorge for a full days walk up the gorge. Day 16 A mornings drive to Umbrawarra gorge with the afternoon spent walking and swimming in the gorge. Day 17 We head south on the Stuart highway for a night in Tennant Creek. Day 18 Time to explore Australia’s last gold rush town before heading south into the Davenport Ranges National Park for a two-night camp. Day 19 Walking and exploring in the Davenport Ranges. Day 20 We head further south through Alice Springs to camp the night in Rainbow Valley. Day 21 A morning walk at Rainbow valley before heading south for a night in Coober Pedy. Day 22-23 Return to Adelaide arriving approx 6pm. |
