Corals, Turtles, Giant clams, Maori Wrasse and more.
Down Under Cruise & Dive carefully selects its Dive spots. These areas are selected to be free of strong currents. Water temperatures range from 24 degrees Celsius in Winter to 30 degrees Celsius in Summer. Underwater visibility is typically 10 to 20 metres.
NORMAN REEF:
Almost 80 km's off Cairns, on the very Outer Edge
Great variety of fish life, pelagics, turtles, coral gardens, swim throughs, caves, giant clams. Ampitheatre like sandy floors are surrounded by coral hillocks, reef edge and bommies. The swim throughs are excellent but some of the caves are not safe and a guide is necessary to lead you and show you which ones are safe. There are walls of all sizes and shapes with overhangs common.
SAXON REEF:
Hard corals, moray eels, lion fish, Maori wrasse, beautiful coral gardens. Excellent shallow snorkelling over the bommie tops. Swim throughs and gullies are scattered throughout the reef. The white sandy floor reflects the light and on a sunny day turns the whole area into a classic magical reef scene. Awesome Coral location.
HASTINGS REEF:
A large popular snorkelling and diving reef. Hard and soft corals, walls, swim throughs, turtles, stingrays. Over 13klms of reef edge and back reef sand floors to explore. Staghorn coral are regular features with giant clams perched on the shallow reeftop and bommies, with good swim throughs up into the reef. Thousands of tame fish, including the world famous Wally the giant wrasse.
MICHAELMAS REEF:
A 10 klm long reef with a sandy cay. Many giant clams, walls, black coral, swim throughs, black coral trees, lion fish, Maori Wrasse. Excellent bommies to explore where you will encounter batfish, cleaner stations, crayfish, turtle weed clumps and more.
