Local Attractions The Coral Coast is the gateway to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World - The Great Barrier Reef! Boasting an abundance of sea life, there are numerous day tours available to get you off the shores to enjoy the magic of this world recognized attraction. From November until the end of March you are able to view the nesting and hatching of turtles at Mon Repos Turtle Rookery and beach. The Turtles venture ashore between November and January to nest. This unique experience is best viewed after dark. Hatching of the new marine life generally occurs from January to March. Mon Repos is monitored by Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service to ensure the safety of the nesting Turtles and their hatchlings. From August to October there is the annual migration of the Humpback Whales. Challenge yourself with a day out on the waters fishing. You can head out with your tackle either offshore, in the freshwaters or the estuary and river system.
