Travel with Sunrover Expeditions to Moreton Island, on a day tour or a 2 or 3 day camping safari, and you'll discover an island of breathtaking wilderness where man has had little influence.

These Tours depart Brisbane, Gold Coast and Redcliffe for Scarborough International Harbour and a cruise across Moreton Bay Marine Park aboard the Moreton Island Sea Ferry.

98% of Moreton Island is National Park. This means laws have been put in place to conserve, not only the native Australian animals and plants and the natural landscape, but also the archaeological and historical sites.

Moreton Island's human history is both modern and ancient. Aboriginals have occupied this island for thousands of years, the only visable remains are the 'middens' (mounds of discarded shells). Moreton Bay, near the island, is scattered with wrecks, hence the construction of Queensland's oldest lighthouse at Cape Moreton in 1857, still used today to guide ships into the notorious bay.

Moreton Island was also once home to Queensland's first & only whaling station from 1952 -1962. Tangalooma has now been converted to a small resort on the west side of the island, which caters mainly for day trippers from Brisbane.

Moreton Islands ecology is complex and fragile. It supports a number of habitats - beach and dune communities, sedge and paperbark swamps, banksia heathlands , open woodlands and salt marshes which attract over 125 species of birds along with countless species of lizards and small marsupials. This is a photographers paradise.

4WD vehicle is the only access on the roadless island. Sunrover Expeditions will transport you in comfort on a true 4WD experience to Moreton's long deserted beaches, crystal clear surf, freshwater lagoons, rainforests and one of the worlds highest stable sand dunes (280 metres) - Mt. Tempest.

Sunrover Expeditions' promises you an interesting, relaxing an informative adventure to one of Australia's best kept secret's .... Moreton Island.
