From the mountains to the sea – the rainbow region will enchant you with its wonders! The Experience Your morning begins before dawn, when a new day is about to begin. This is when the air is stable and the winds are calm, ensuring a tranquil flight. Our passengers are picked up approximately one hour before sunrise from your accommodation in the Byron Bay area, or from the meeting point at the Tyagarah Airfield. You are then driven to the launch site, which is determined on the morning depending on the wind speed and direction. We have about 25 different launch sites within a 50km radius of Byron Bay, and these locations are individually selected to give you the best possible flight for the prevailing wind direction. After a short flight briefing, you are welcome to help with the inflation, or to stand back and take photographs. As the sun’s first rays lighten the skies, the balloon swells, slowly taking its form.... Soon after, the balloon silently takes off and starts drifting with the wind, controlled by the experienced pilot that will give you a brief introduction to how a balloon is controlled and flown. Mount Warning, the large volcano with its massive caldera dominates the horizon to the north and the endless blue ocean to the east. Your ballooning experience will entertain you for 3 to 4 hours. It is an occasion that you will be talking about far into the future. The actual flying time is about one hour, with balloon preparation, briefing, landing, packing away and the sipping of champagne occupying the remainder of the time. It is fascinating to be a part of all aspects of this ballooning experience. After landing in a farmer’s field, relax and enjoy the early morning atmosphere. Join us for a tradional celebratory breakfast at the five star guest house "Victoria's" with a complimentary glass of chilled Champagne. A personalized ’Flight Certificate’ is given to each passenger, which rounds off a fabulous morning. Safety
Who can fly? Ballooning is gentle and suitable for all persons over the age of 5 years. No specific level of fitness is required however you will need to be able to stand for the duration of the flight (1 hour). The minimum age for our junior flyers is 5 years old (children under 5 years old are welcome to accompany an adult in the chase vehicle). People with the following concerns may not be suitable to fly and should discuss this prior to booking:
If for any reason, you, a friend or family member is unable to fly, then they do not have to miss out on the experience. They can join in the fun as a spectator, assisting in launching the balloon, taking photos and waving you off as you rise into the sky. Then they can enjoy the chase in the crew vehicle and be there to greet you as you land, assist in packing up the balloon and help you celebrate over a traditional champagne breakfast! Children under 5 years old are welcome to accompany an adult in the chase vehicle. (All child spectators must be accompanied by an adult).
