Sanda House is the oldest house in Orford {1840}. Known locally as the old Post Office {1876 - 1940}, it is nestled in an acre of garden, combining privacy with a sea view, and a peaceful, rural feel.

Sanda House is built from local field stone and sandstone and is part of Tasmania's history.

Orford is a 1 hour drive from Hobart, via the Tasman Highway on the east coast, the warmest part of Tasmania. The town has a population of approx 500 and faces Maria Island, which can be reached by a 20 minute ferry ride.

Maria Island (a former convict settlement) has an interesting history and pre-dates Port Arthur. Its well worth a visit.

Port Arthur can be reached from Orford, by the tourist drive through the Wielangta Forest, which begins a few doors up from Sanda House. Orford has most of the features of a small holiday town.

A charming nine hole golf course, a bowls club, a hotel, fresh local seafood, a vineyard across the bridge, supermarkets and a post office. The Prosser River runs through the town and out onto a pristine beach.

Shore birds are often the only thing you will encounter. Their nesting site are protected.

Three bedrooms have been set aside for colonial accommodation, with all the comforts and, in the morning, a hearty breakfast. After breakfast you can take a stroll via the forest walk which follows the creek down to the beach. Take your binoculars and meet the native birds! The Rose bedroom is the old kitchen, which has been dated from 1825, and one can almost feel the presence of all the people who have lived and worked in that room over all that time.
