Every year, after Christmas, the dock is evacuated to make room for participants in the famous 'Sydney to Hobart yacht race', arguably the finest blue-water ocean classic in the world. Hobart Metro runs bus services within the Hobart area with most buses terminating near the main post office on Elizabeth Street and also in Macquarie Street and Franklin Square. Bus information is available from the Metroshop inside the General Post Office on Elizabeth Street.
There is also a ferry service that offers transport to a number of sights around Hobart working on a hop on hop off basis. The Wrest Point Wanderer travels between 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The most economic way to get around Hobart?s city centre is on foot! As most attractions and destinations are within close proximity to each other, they are easily accessible by foot.
Taxis or self drive transport are options when you have less time or wish to travel further from the city. There is an excellent bus service in the city that connects all the places of interest. The Airporter Shuttle Bus provides regular service to the city and major hotels.
