Itinerary

Day 1 Tue.

Launceston, Freedom of Choice Touring, Welcome Dinner
Stay: Launceston, Hotel Grand Chancellor

On arrival in Launceston be met and transferred to your hotel. Then choose to visit Platypus House, Seahorse World or the Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre. This evening, get to know your APT crew and fellow travellers at a Welcome Drinks and Dinner at the hotel. Dx1

Day 2 Wed.
East Coast Natureworld, Freycinet National Park
Stay: APT HIGHLIGHT! Freycinet Lodge, located within picturesque Freycinet National Park

Visit the Bridestowe Lavender Farm in lavender flowering season (Dec.-Jan.) and see fields of aromatic purple flowers. Continue through the town of Scottsdale, which services the rich agricultural and forestry region of the north-east. Following the Tasman Highway, enter the temperate rainforests of the Weldborough Pass. Treasured giant myrtles, over 300 years old, stand as sentinels along your journey. Continuing south to Bicheno, visit East Coast Natureworld. See APT's very own Tasmanian Devil, Delilah, then journey to Freycinet National Park and walk along Cape Tourville. Arrive at renowned Freycinet Lodge and enjoy stunning views of magnificent Coles Bay while you savour a gourmet barbeque dinner.

Day 3 Thur.
Freycinet National Park, Freedom of Choice Touring, Port Arthur, Crayfeast
Stay: Port Arthur, Comfort Inn, the only hotel in the historic site overlooking the ruins

With Freedom of Choice Touring, today you have the choice of several activities in Freycinet National Park. Exclusive to APT, perhaps cruise to Wineglass Bay and sample some of Tasmania's finest cheeses and sparkling wines sourced locally and served at anchor; or join a guided walk through native bushland to a stunning viewpoint overlooking Wineglass Bay. Alternatively, you might like to join a Bluestone Bay 4WD tour or experience the beauty of Freycinet from a sea kayak. Later, travel through Swansea and on to the historic town of Richmond to see the convict-built bridge and quaint Georgian village buildings before arriving in Port Arthur. This evening savour the flavours of a Tasmanian speciality - a delicious crayfish dinner, exclusive to APT. Bx1 Dx1

Port Arthur Historic Site, Hobart, Dine Around Dinner

Enjoy a full day to explore Port Arthur Historic Site. Witness the penal colony ruins, explore the chilling prison facilities and cruise on Mason Cove around the Isle of the Dead. Take the opportunity to play the 'Lottery of Life' game or stroll around the colourful gardens. After an exciting day of discovery, continue to Hobart where tonight you have the opportunity to choose your dining experience. Perhaps sample mouth-watering cuisine at Restaurant Tasman, enjoy the nautical atmosphere of The Drunken Admiral or dine on Spanish-influenced cuisine at Sisco's on the Pier. Bx1 Dx1

Salamanca Market, Freedom of Choice Touring

Enjoy free time to discover Hobart's renowned Salamanca Market on a bustling Saturday. Wander through the over three hundred stalls featuring local produce, arts and crafts. Today you also have a range of Freedom of Choice Touring activities to choose from. Perhaps join a guided walking tour of Hobart, or walk among the tree tops on the Tahune AirWalk. Alternatively you might like to enjoy a traditional high tea at historic Hadley's Hotel or paddle past the sights of Hobart in a sea kayak. Bx1

Day 5 Alternative.
Bruny Island Adventure Cruise

Day 6 Sun.
Russell Falls, Lake St Clair, West Coast Wilderness Railway, Strahan
Two Night Stay: APT EXCLUSIVE! Strahan Village, Harbour View Deluxe Rooms

Follow the Derwent Valley to Mt Field National Park, Tasmania's oldest wilderness area. A short walk will bring you to the spectacular Russell Falls. Continue to World Heritage-listed Lake St Clair - the deepest lake in the Southern Hemisphere. Arriving in Queenstown, join the West Coast Wilderness Railway, which links to the port of Strahan. Ride through pristine forest scenery and see stations of the past. Tonight, enjoy a delicious buffet dinner while overlooking the Strahan waterfront. Bx1 Dx1

Day 7 Mon.
World Heritage-listed Gordon River Cruise, Dine Around Dinner

Board the Lady Jane Franklin II and discover the World Heritage wilderness of the Gordon River. Enjoy guaranteed window seating and lunch onboard. Stop for a walk through untouched rainforest before exploring the penal colony of Sarah Island with a local guide. This afternoon, discover the coastal town of Strahan, a fishing port offering an abundance of fresh seafood to sample. In the evening, choose to dine at View 42º, Hamers Hotel or The Fish Cafe. Day 8 Tue.
Cradle Mountain, Dove Lake, Freedom of Choice Touring
Stay: Cradle Mountain Lodge, Pencil Pine Cabins in surrounding bushlands

Join a local guide to explore the wilderness of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and Dove Lake. Visit Waldheim Chalet, which was originally built in 1912 and today provides an insight into the early settler days at Cradle Valley. For the afternoon, take your pick from a number of touring options - partake in a wine and cheese tasting class, learn about Cradle Mountain's unique flora and fauna on the Enchanted guided walk, take a spotlighting tour to see local nocturnal fauna in their own habitat (limited availability), relax with a treatment at the Waldheim Alpine Spa, or pick up a gourmet hamper to enjoy in the beautiful surrounds. The Nut, Woolnorth Wind Farm, Cape Grim, Smithton

Continue along the coast to the historical town of Stanley and see the rocky outcrop of The Nut. This afternoon, visit Tasmania's largest wind farm at Woolnorth, perched atop the windswept north-western cliffs. Tour Cape Grim and revitalise your senses with the world's cleanest air. Travel to the north-west town of Smithton for your stay this evening at Tall Timbers, presiding over the edge of one of the world's last truly natural and unspoilt frontiers. Bx1 Dx1

Day 10 Thur.
Sheffield, Woolmers Estate, National Rose Garden

Travel to Sheffield, a quaint town where over 30 murals have been painted on many of the buildings' walls. This afternoon, visit Ashgrove Cheese Factory to sample and purchase some renowned boutique cheeses. Later, tour through historic Woolmers Estate and stroll through the National Rose Garden on site. Continue on to Launceston and transfer to the airport. Bx1
