We tread softly, conscious that man has been here for only a brief moment.

For it was 185 million years ago, driven by powerful currents in the earths mantle, that the ancient continent of Gondwana started to break apart. Eventually a massive lifeboat was cast adrift carrying a precious cargo of unique plants and animals.

This is Australia and it is still drifting Northwards at the great speed of 60 kilometres every million years.

Unlike Gondwana, most of Australia has become dry and arid.

There is this small area near Cairns in Tropical North Queensland, where today you will find the remnant rainforests of Gondwana.

Enjoy fine food surrounded by uninterrupted views for 110 kilometres. A remarkable vista studded by coral islands, reefs and mountain ranges.

Birds and Butterflies
Thala is an area exceptionally rich in habitat diversity, making it one of the best places on the coast for bird watching. We also have a wonderful variety of Queenslands Tropical Butterflies.

Contact our restaurant manager or reception to pre-arrange a beautiful Picnic basket. Lunch or an early dinner on the beach, romance beyond compare.

Our fabulous free form pool, a cool and tranquil swim and 360 degrees of coastline to view while you bathe.

Boutique
Thalas Boutique is open from early morning until after dinner each evening.

Bar
The 'Masked Plover' bar is open throughout the day and evening for your pleasure. Overlooking our pool and the majestic expanse of our coast and rainforests.
