Kingfisher Bay Resort Villas. Self contained two and three bedroom villas nestle among the trees. Ranging in size from bungalows with a master bedroom and a bunk room for the kids to three bedroom town houses with huge living areas, they are delightful holiday homes. All have large private decks with bush or sea views.

Getting to Kingfisher Bay ResortFraser Island lies off the Queensland coast, a four-hour drive north of the capital of Brisbane. Virgin Blue, and Qantas Airlines run daily direct flights to the Fraser Coast/Hervey Bay from Sydney and Brisbane with connections to all other ports as well as daily coach and train transfers from Brisbane. Kingfisher Passenger and Vehicle Ferry has 4 main services to the resort each day from River Heads and return. This ferry has seating for 220 passengers on two decks with a fully licensed bar and snack food available. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes. Passenger or 4WD vehicular ferry to Kingfisher Bay Resort, you are advised to arrive at the Mainland Reception River Heads to check-in 40 minutes prior to the ferry departure time. A courtesy shuttle from Mainland Reception to the jetty will leave 10 minutes prior to departure for our walk-on passengers. RANGER-GUIDED BUSHWALKS & TALKS: Join our rangers on walks and talks throughout the day. On the morning bird walk you'll spot some of the 354 species that frequent the island including honeyeaters, eastern whip birds, rainbow bee-eaters and the brilliant azure, forest and sacred kingfishers. Find out how our plants survive in sand and how the Aborigines and early European settlers used these plants for both food and medicine. Come behind the scenes and see how Australia's leading environmental resort operates - we have set benchmarks in ecotourism. On a night walk turn the spotlight on rare acid frogs and insectivorous bats around the resort lakes and sugar gliders as they move through the trees. Marvel at the night skies or see our slide presentation and learn to be dingo safe.
FULL DAY RANGER GUIDED 4WD TOUR: Tours visit the island's beauty spots including Lake McKenzie, the island's most beautiful perched lake; tranquil Central Station where you can walk along the banks of Wanggoolba Creek, as it flows silently through rainforest; Pile Valley with its majestic satinay forest; and an ancient forest being uncovered as Stonetool Sand Blow moves across the island. You'll also drive along famous Seventy-Five Mile Beach to swim in Eli Creek as it flows swiftly into the ocean, photograph the wreck of the cruise ship Maheno and see the coloured sands of the Pinnacles. Rangers, experts on Fraser Island's natural and cultural history, guide the tours conducted in modern, air-conditioned 4WD coaches. Morning tea, afternoon refreshments and a hot and cold buffet lunch are included. Pre booking is advised.
WHALE WATCHING CRUISE (AUG-OCT ONLY): Join the Kingfisher Bay crew and cruise out to the calm waters of Platypus Bay to watch the gentle giants. They'll blow your mind! Humpback whales at play in the calm waters just off Fraser Island. Imagine watching as an animal weighing the same as 11 elephants, propels its 15 metre body out of the water with just a few flicks of its giant tail. They often swim close to the boat. The experienced crew will add to the enjoyment of your day by explaining the whales' behaviour and making the tour educational and entertaining. The vessel is equipped with a hydrophone which allows you to listen to the musical call of the whales. There is also the opportunity to spot other marine life including dolphins, turtles and dugongs. * Whale Watching Package available is only from Aug - mid-Oct only.
