The Great Barrier Reef begins here with our two coral cays Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave Islands and coral reefs fringing the shoreline. Try some of Australia’s best shore diving in the Woongarra Marine Park right on our coastline - the Coral Coast - it’s so easy.
Over 140kms of unspoilt beaches stretch from Woodgate to the Town of 1770. These range from surf to calm waters. Many waterways and estuaries provide ideal spots to drop a line and fish - or why not try offshore fishing?
With our natural environment including 15 National Parks, the region is also home to many special marine creatures. Humpback Whales pass close to shore en route to Hervey Bay and Fraser Island. Australia’s largest mainland turtle rookery is situated at Mon Repos Beach and the coral isles are bird and turtle rookeries during summer months.
