Brookes Australia Tours 4.5 Days Kakadu & Arnhem Land

Travelling with a maximum of just 6 passengers in the comfort of a luxurious fully equipped air-conditioned 4WD vehicle, this drive/fly tour combines the best of the famous Kakadu National Park with the unique opportunity to visit a remote area of Aboriginal owned Arnhem Land.

Day 1: Depart Darwin accommodation at around 8am. Our first stop is Fogg Dam a vast open wetland area that is home to large numbers of birds during our Top End dry season. Moving on we cross the Marrakai plains, the Adelaide and Mary Rivers before our morning tea stop at the Bark Hut Outback Pub. We then turn off the highway down the old Jim Jim dirt track into Kakadu with the opportunity for viewing bird and wildlife at waterholes along the way. Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch with billy tea/coffee overlooking a pristine billabong. Then travel on to the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre before checking into Gagudju Cooinda Lodge our accommodation for the next two nights. Join a sunset cruise on the famous Yellow Waters, abundant with many species of birds and of course the mighty salt water crocodile.

Day 2: After breakfast we head north to the Nanguluwur rock art and occupation sites. This site is less well known and well away from the crowds but has some excellent examples of rock art, including the rare and ancient dynamic figures. There are also the famous x-ray style art and so called contact period art when Aboriginal people had first contact with white man. Your guide will explain the art and culture of the area. We then visit Bowali Visitor Centre and Park Headquarters. After lunch we head south along the 4WD track to Maguk (Barramundie Gorge) spend the afternoon in this picturesque area. At the end of a monsoonal forest walk you can enjoy a swim in the refreshing natural plunge pool below a beautiful perennial waterfall. Late afternoon Fishing return to Cooinda Lodge overnight.

Day 3: Early morning join your light aircraft at Cooinda airstrip for a 30 minute scenic flight into a private bush airstrip in remote Western Arnhem Land at Borradaile Safari Camp. Experienced guides will escort you through a series of educative adventures that include visiting 60,000 year old Aboriginal rock art and occupation sites and an interpretation of those sites.

Enjoy a sunset billabong cruise whilst enjoying drinks and nibbles and take in the areas natural beauty. There are great photographic opportunities. Or if fishing is your passion then you have come to the right place. You may want to try you luck at catching one of the famous fighting fish - the Barramundie.

Monsoonal rainforests and paperbark stands act as buffers to adjacent flood plains and lily covered waterways with eucalypt woodlands seasonally alight with brilliant, yellow, red or orange blossoms. More than 200 species of bird call the area home over locally recognised seasons, their colourful presence a delight to the enthusiastic bird watcher or just sit back and soak up the atmosphere. Day 4: Activities at Borradaile Safari Camp and overnight.

Day 5: Depart Borradaile at 9am to Darwin by light aircraft eta 10am .

Includes: all morning teas, breakfasts and lunches in Kakadu, including all meals at Davidsons Safari Camp.
Excludes: evening meals at Kakadu and alcohol.
Aboriginal permits are not included and must be paid directly to SSB on arrival.
