ItineraryDay 1Depart Darwin and travel to Kakadu National Park. En route, we will take a break at the Bark Hut Inn, an interesting outback pub. As an introduction to Kakadu and it's various habitats we start our touring with the Yellow Waters Wetland and wildlife cruise near Cooinda. Knowledgeable guides provide guests with an insight into the wildlife and the habitat you encounter. After the cruise and lunch, make our way to Nourlangie rock art site and explore the various galleries, with insightful interpretation of the art and the rich Aboriginal cultural history of the area from your guide. Continue to Hawk Dreaming camp and settle in. In the late afternoon, enjoy a sunset nearby camp, before a delicious home cooked dinner and a comfortable night in the specially designed tents. (LUNCH, DINNER)
Day 2After breakfast, drive out of camp to begin a truly enjoyable day exploring the majestic beauty of Jim Jim and Twin Falls. Access to Jim Jim Gorge is by a 900 metre walk over rocks. Active people have no problems. The falls may not flow throughout the dry season, but if there has been a reasonable wet season they will still be running up until late August and the plunge pool at the base of Jim Jim provides the opportunity for a welcome swim throughout the year. The surrounding gorges are a spectacle to behold as the rock colours continuously change with the suns' position. Access to Twin Falls is by a short easy stroll to the edge of the stream and then a short boat trip up the gorge area to the beach at the base of these beautiful falls, with time to relax in the spectacular scenery that you are bound to remember for a long time. Return to Hawk Dreaming in the late afternoon. (BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)
Day 3Spend the early part of the morning exploring the Aboriginal lands of Hawk Dreaming - visit some of the ancient rock art sites and shelters in the land of the Bunitj people. Here intimate rock art sites can be explored at a leisurely pace. without fences or crowds, with time to soak up the spiritual atmosphere of the area. Sit and learn in outdoor 'classrooms' just like the Aboriginals have done for thousands of years, before returning to our exclusive camp.
Late morning, head over to the East Alligator River, forming the boundary between Kakadu and Arnhemland. Climb and explore Ubirr Rock - with magnificent views over the surrounding area and some very special examples of ancient Aboriginal rock art. Stop off back at Hawk Dreaming, where the vehicle and guide will make their way back to Darwin, while you enjoy another night in the camp, in preparation for the Arnhemland excursion tomorrow. (BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)
Day 4Your hosts at Hawk Dreaming will transfer you to a collection point for your day trip into Arnhemland. Arnhemland is Aboriginal land - a unique area where Aboriginal people live a lifestyle more closely linked to their true culture and heritage. This 4WD tour will visit Mikinj Valley, a superbly scenic area of sandstone outcrops and escarpments, forest, floodplains and billabongs. This is an area where Aboriginals have lived for thousands of years and by arrangement with and co-operation of the Manilakarr people, this unique tour will allow you to see places inaccessible to most. Hear of traditional land ownership, learn of bush skills, hunting, food gathering and preparation (bush tucker), view Aboriginal art in its natural state - no fences or barriers, or other groups just art as it was created many years ago. In the afternoon, drop off at the Crocodile Hotel in Jabiru, where you will be collected for your transfer back to Darwin, arriving late evening. (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)
