Itinerary
Day 1 Sat: Arrive Ayers Rock
On arrival in Ayers Rock you will be transferred to your hotel. This evening enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles as you watch the spectacular colours of sunset over Uluru (Ayers Rock).
Hotel: Outback Pioneer Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort, 2 nights.
Day 2 Sun: Uluru (Ayers Rock) - Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)
This morning you may wish to join an early tour to view sunrise over Uluru. Afterwards travel by coach to Kuniya Piti, an Aboriginal sacred site at the base of Uluru. Your guide will escort you on a walk to the Waterhole, pointing out the natural features of the landscape, Aboriginal rock paintings and traditional Aboriginal stories relating to the special place. Experience the sheer size of Uluru as your guide explains the geological formation, Aboriginal history and the flora and fauna unique to this area. Visit the informative Uluru - Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. This afternoon view the massive series of domes known as Kata Tjuta. Enjoy sunset with a glass of sparkling wine followed by a barbecue dinner under the stars. B HD
Day 3 Mon: Kings Canyon
Travel to Kings Canyon today. For the energetic, a guided climb to the Canyon rim will be rewarded with magnificent views of Watarrka National Park. Alternatively, you may prefer to explore the boulder-strewn Canyon floor, an easier walk. The sheer red rock face of the canyon soars over 100 metres above lush palm forests, sheltering them from the surrounding desert conditions. The park is a conservation area whose rock holes and gorges provide refuge for over 600 species of plants and many native animals. The Luritja Aboriginal people have called the area their home for over 20,000 years, while it was little known to Europeans until recently.
Hotel: Kings Canyon Resort, Kings Canyon. B
Day 4 Tue: Alice Springs
Leaving Watarrka National Park behind we travel through to Alice Springs, at the doorstep to the Red Centre. Tour the sights of 'The Alice' including a visit to the historic Telegraph Station. At the Royal Flying Doctor Service you will see how medical aid reaches those who live in the remote 'outback'. Visit the School of the Air where sometimes we are able to listen to the children take lessons on air. Conclude with a panoramic view of Alice Springs and the surrounding ranges from the top of Anzac Hill.
Hotel: All Seasons Oasis, Alice Springs, 2 nights. B
Day 5 Wed: Aboriginal Culture - Alice Springs Desert Park
This morning spend time with a local Aboriginal guide. You will learn of life and survival of the Arrente People, including bush food, the search for water and Kinship. This will be followed by a visit to the Alice Springs Desert Park. Learn about Australia's unique desert marsupials and reptiles. Visit the Nocturnal House and Nature Theatre, where you will enjoy the demonstrations. This afternoon we travel to Angkerle (Standley Chasm), surrounded by masses of vegetation including cycads, ferns and river gums and Simpsons Gap with its lovely river red-gum scenery. B
Day 6 Thu: Depart Alice Springs
Tour concludes today after breakfast. You will be transferred to Alice Springs Airport for your onward flight. B
