Highlights: - Uluru (Ayers Rock) - Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) - Kings Canyon
Day 1: Kata Tjuta - Uluru (Ayers Rock)
Depart Alice Springs at 7.30am and travel
south through the West MacDonnell and
James Ranges. Your Driver Guide will
provide comprehensive commentary
of your surrounds as you pass through
the rugged scenery of the outback. Visit
a camel farm where there is time for a
camel ride (own expense). Later stop at Mt.
Ebenezer Roadhouse for the opportunity
to purchase morning tea and locally made
Aboriginal art. Pause to view majestic
Atila (Mt. Conner), a significant sacred
site, often mistaken for Uluru, before
arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. Travel to
the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta (the
Olgas). On the way, stop at a lookout for
a panoramic view of the southern side of
Kata Tjuta, before arriving at Walpa Gorge.
Spend some time exploring the gorge and
the unusual conglomerate rock formations.
The walking trail through Walpa Gorge
follows the natural creek between two of
the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. In the late
afternoon we travel to the Uluru sunset
viewing area. Witness the striking colour
changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying
a complimentary glass of wine.
Accommodation: Outback Pioneer Budget Rooms (B) Outback Pioneer Hotel (R), Desert Gardens Hotel (S) or Sails in the Desert Hotel (F), Ayers Rock Resort.
Day 2: Kings Canyon - Alice Springs
Rise early and drive through sand hill
country towards Kings Canyon, stopping
for breakfast at Kings Creek Station (own
expense). Continue on to Watarrka National
Park where you can make the rocky
climb with your guide to the rim of Kings
Canyon to be rewarded with marvellous
views. The climb may take up to 3 hours
and is for those with a good level of
fitness. Or you may wish to explore the
boulder-strewn canyon floor, an easier
walk. Later, we return to Alice Springs,
arriving at approximately 7.00pm.
